Dr. Dimosthenis (Dimos) Pavlou is a Civil-Transportation Engineer, PhD, and a Research Associate at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. He holds a Civil Engineering Diploma (which is also a M.Eng.) (2008), a MSc (2010), a PhD (2016), a post-doc (2018), and currently he is completing his 2nd post-doc dissertation (2022). He is also, an Adjunct Lecturer in the courses “Traffic Flow Analysis and Management”, “Intelligent Transportation Systems” and “Analysis and Transportation Planning” in the School of Engineering, Department of Surveying and Geo-Informative Systems, University of West Attica, Athens, Greece.
He has extensive knowledge of the dynamics of transport, through his active participation for more than 10 years, as an engineer, researcher, academic, transport consultant, and advisor in all fields of transportation planning and infrastructure. His areas of expertise include road safety, human factors, driving behaviour, safe mobility, sustainable urban mobility and intelligent transportation systems. He has participated, with key role, in more than 30 transportation projects in Greece and abroad and has published 78 scientific papers (20 in scientific journals and 58 in scientific conference proceedings after peer review). In addition, he has another 62 presentations (only abstracts) in scientific conferences. Last year (2021) he had 57 citations of his papers according to Google Scholar (230 in total) and 29 Scopus citations (79 in total). He has supervised more than 15 Diploma Theses and 4 PhD Theses. He is conference organizing committee member (6), conference scientific committee member (4) and reviewer in journals and conferences (20). Finally, he has been awarded 8 times for his research activities so far.
He has been also occupied in several projects as Transportation Engineer and Road Safety Expert in many transportation engineering studies all over the globe. He has 7-year experience in conducting traffic flow studies, parking management studies, signage studies, charging points for electric vehicles location suitability studies, in Greece and abroad. Over the last years, he has also been a road safety trainer, lecturer and consultant in Riyadh, in the recently established National Road Safety Center in Saudi Arabia and in Addis Ababa Transport Management Authority (Ethiopia). Indicative list of studies he has been involved since 2016: strategic parking management in Saudi Arabia, road safety management in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia, feasibility study of expansion of Uganda Railways in Kampala/Uganda, conduction of road safety inspections and audits in Saudi Arabia, traffic impact assessment studies in Qatar, traffic management and operational plan for big events in Saudi Arabia, sustainable urban mobility plans in Greece, several transportation studies in Greece etc.
Finally he is the Owner and Managing Director of ScienTra Consulting Engineers Private Company.
