NTUA – Digitalisation and Road Safety Research Workshop, Athens 2019

NTUA within the framework of the Fifth UN Global Road Safety Week organized a Scientific Workshop titled “Digitalisation and Road Safety Research” which took place with great success on 17 May 2019 in Athens. CITA – The future of transport: The challenge of new technologies for road safety, Brussels, 2019

The International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA), under the patronage of Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, organized an event under the theme: “The future of transport: The challenge of new technologies for road safety“. The event took place with great success in Brussels, Belgium, on 16 May 2019, at Autoworld: Parc du Cinquantenaire. Without doubt vehicle safety is one of the key pillars of an integrated EU road safety strategy. A discussion was made on how to improve road safety and the challenges for the testing and certification of new technologies and components, in order to make them safe and secure during the complete life cycle.

5th International Conference on Vehicle Technology and ITS (VEHITS), Heraklion 2019

The 5th International Conference on Vehicle Technology and Intelligent Transport Systems (VEHITS) took place with great success in Heraklion, Crete, on 3-5 May 2019. The purpose of VEHITS 2019 was to bring together engineers, researchers and practitioners interested in the advances and applications in the field of Vehicle Technology and Intelligent Transport Systems. This conference focused on innovative applications, tools and platforms in all technology areas such as signal processing, wireless communications, informatics and electronics, related to different kinds of vehicles, including cars, off-road vehicles, trains, ships, underwater vehicles, or flying machines, and the intelligent transportation systems that connect and manage large numbers of vehicles, not only in the context of smart cities but in many other application domains.

ETSC – REVIVE Conference: Identifying good practice in emergency response in Europe, 2019

The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) organized the REVIVE Conference which took place with great success in Brussels, on 18 June 2019. This conference brought together road safety practitioners and legislators, and those working in the fire and rescue and emergency medical systems. It provided an opportunity to learn more about the work of the REVIVE project and to discuss good practice in the emergency response across Europe. The aim of the REVIVE project was to map Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and Rescue and Fire Service (RFS) practices in the EU28 and raise the profile of both EMS and RFS on the national and European political agendas.

The 4th SaferAfrica Dialogue Platform Workshop took place with great success in Brussels, Belgium, on 4th of April 2019. After the previous workshops in Marrakech, (Morocco, November 2017), Athens, (Greece, April 2018) and Abidjan, (Ivory Coast, November 2018), this workshop focused on SaferAfrica Overview and current activities, the Road Safety Observatories and Capacity Building in Africa. Sixth Global Meeting of Non-Governmental Road Safety Organizations – Chania, Greece, 2019

The Sixth Global Meeting of Non-Governmental Organizations Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims took place with great success in Chania, Crete, Greece, from 8–13 April 2019, attended by 270 participants including NGOs and road safety stakeholders from 76 countries around the world. Highlights included workshops, training, the poster exhibition opened by Jean Todt, the High-Level Symposium, the FedEx Road Safety Award, photo exhibition, the preparations for UN Global Road Safety Week and the Third Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Sweden 2020.  The NGOs Road Safety Declaration is available here:

ERTRAC – Annual Conference Road Transport Research towards “Horizon Europe”, Brussels, 2019

ERTRAC organised the Annual Conference 2019: Road Transport Research towards “Horizon Europe” which took place with great success in Brussels, on 4 April 2019. The conference was dedicated to the preparation of the 9th Research Framework Programme “Horizon Europe”: which place for Road Transport Research and which key research challenges? Three new Roadmaps were presented and distributed: on “Connected Automated Driving“, on “Road Safety“, and on “Long Distance Freight Transport. The event included an exhibition showcasing some examples of innovation in the automotive and mobility sector.

The FEHRL Infrastructure Research Meeting 2019 (FIRM19) took place with great success on 26-28 March 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. The theme was “On-Ramp to innovation: Let’s co-create together our future transport infrastructure“ and it coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of FEHRL. EPTS – 17th European Transport Conference, Bratislava, 2019

The European Platform of Transport Sciences (EPTS) oganised with great success the 17th International Conference – ETC 2019 which was held in Bratislava, Slovakia, on 13-14 June 2019. Since its first meeting in 2001 in Vienna the purpose of EPTS is the enhancement of the dialogue between politics, science and economy in the field of European transport. This is to be accomplished by organising scientific events, encouraging the exchange of opinions and experiences, joint PR efforts, the enhancement of scientific research and continuing education, cooperation with other scientific institutions and support of young scientists, especially through the Young Forum of European Transport Sciences (YFE).

RADAR – Road Safety Expert Group Meeting, Ljubljana, 2019

On March 27, 2019 in Ljubljana, the Interreg funded RADAR project organised the first Road Safety Expert Group meeting focusing on Safer Roads Investment Plans. The 32nd ICTCT conference was held in Warsaw, Poland on 24-25th October 2019, under the theme “Vision zero for traffic fatalities and serious injuries – research questions and challenges”.  ICTCT approaches safety as an integral part of the wider road traffic system, envisaging all transport modes with a specific emphasis on vulnerable road users.

RSA Annual Conference International Best Practice in Road Safety Strategy Development, Dublin 2019

The Road Safety Authority of Ireland (RSA) organised with great success the Annual Conference under the theme “International Best Practice in Road Safety Strategy Development” which took place in Dublin on 13 June 2019. This year’s conference looked at international developments and the benefits of a strategic approach to road safety. The speakers shared their expertise and experiences in the development of best practice in road safety strategy formulation and performance measures. The speakers were from a variety of backgrounds including operational, academic and policy development. The Conference was a precursor to the development of the next Government Road Safety Strategy.

10th International Conference on the Prevention of Accidents at Work (WOS), Vienna, 2019

The 10th International Conference on the Prevention of Accidents at Work (WOS 2019) tool place in Vienna on 23-26 September 2019. The Congress, focusing on the prevention of workplace accidents – WOS: Working on Safety – aimed at bringing together experts from all over the world in order to facilitate a high-level exchange of experience, new findings and good practice solutions. The Congress was an excellent occasion for representatives of H&S organizations, labour inspectors, safety professionals, researchers, policy makers, labour administrators and other experts to broaden the personal prevention horizon and to get in touch with experts from other countries and other safety-cultures.

WHO – 13th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, Bangkok, 2018

The 13th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (Safety 2018) took place with great success on 5-7 November 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference was hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, and co-hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM) and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The 13th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion brought together over 1000 of the world’s leading researchers, practitioners, policy-makers and activists to share information and experiences and to discuss solutions. Ethos Events – 2nd Auto Forum “Change your car!”, 2018

Ethos Events in collaboration with the financial and business portal banks.com.gr and the magazine CHRIMA organized with great success the 2nd Auto Forum titled: “Change your car!” on 7 November 2018 in Athens. The focus was on the latest technological advances in the field of passive safety in the automotive sector and the need for consumers to understand the potential of the new technology in order to “escape” untouchable or at least slightly injured after a violent collision caused by a traffic accident.

SAFER – 6th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention, Gothenburg, 2018

The 6th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention (DDI2018) was held with great success in Gothenburg, Sweden, during October 15-17, 2018. Nearly 190 delegates from 26 countries attended DDI2018  which is a record number of delegates. The conference was hosted and co-organised by the SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers in Sweden, the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks (IFSTTAR), and the Australian Road Research Group (ARRB). The conference’s theme was “Driver engagement during assisted driving” and a majority of the research results gave new valuable knowledge about how self-propelled vehicles should be designed to enable drivers to handle them.

8th Symposium of the European Association for Research in Transportation (hEART), Budapest, 2019

The 8th conference of European Association for Research in Transportation (hEART) took place in Budapest on 4-6 September 2019. The conference was organized by the Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), and covered relevant areas of transportation research with specific focus on methods, models and planning of transport systems. The aim of the conference was to connect researchers in transport modeling, transport economics and transport policy with advanced practice. InDeV, PROSPECT, XCYCLE – Final Event on Traffic Safety of Vulnerable Road Users, 2018

The final event of the three Horizon 2020 projects InDeV, PROSPECT and XCYCLE took place on October 12th 2018 at Applus+ IDIADA, 70 km south of the city of Barcelona. At this one-day event, results of these three projects on traffic safety analysis and integrated approach towards better protection of vulnerable road users were presented. The Transport Research Arena 2018 (TRA 2018) took place with great success in Vienna, Austria from 16 to 19 April 2018. More than 3.500 participants actively contributed to this major European Conference on Transport Research, which under the motto ‘A digital era for transport‘ explored new promising and innovative opportunities that the era of digitalization and of the internet of everything offers for transport.  video

PIARC – International Conference on Road Safety, 2018

The International Conference on Road Safety: A Commitment to the Present and a Challenge for the Future, organized by the World Road Association (PIARC), with Infraestruturas of Portugal (IP) and the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT), was held on 19-20 April in Lisbon, Portugal with great success and it brought together international and national experts working on road safety to share experiences and results. It addressed in particular, the Safe Approach System and the Politics of Safety, as well as the role of the infrastructure in safety mobility

VTI – 18th International Conference Road Safety on Five Continents, Jeju Island, South Korea 2018

The 18th international conference Road Safety on Five Continents (RS5C) took place with great success in May 16-18, 2018 on Jeju Island, South Korea. The conference is organised by VTI in close cooperation with Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KOTSA). With focus on traffic safety and health, experts presented and discussed about hot topics and the latest research in the road transport area. By providing a mutual ground for sharing knowledge and a forum to discuss mutual problems and their solutions, researchers, officials and other stakeholders can learn from results, experiences and success stories.

ICORSI – International Road Safety Symposium, Paris, 2018

The Independent Council for Road Safety International (ICORSI) organised the International Symposium: Road Safety Around the World: Future Concerns, which took place with great success in Paris, France on 18 March 2018. The one day symposium sponsored by ICORSI where fourteen papers were presented to focus on important theoretical and practical issues concerning road safety around the world. The papers have been specially prepared for wider dissemination after discussion at this symposium.

SafetyCube – Better Decision Making for Road Safety Conference, Vienna, 2018

The SafetyCube European Conference on Better Decision Making for Road Safety took place with great success on 22-23 March 2018, in Vienna. The results of the SafetyCube EC Horizons 2020 research project were presented, with special focus on the European Road Safety Decision Support System  (DSS) (www.roadsafety-dss.eu) The SafetyCube DSS is expected to enable policy-makers and stakeholders to select and implement the most appropriate strategies, measures and cost-effective approaches to reduce casualties of all road user types and all severities in Europe and worldwide.  video

VTI – 7th Conference on Traffic and Transport Psychology (ICTTP), 2020

The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) and the Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers (SAFER) organised the 7th International Conference on Traffic and Transport Psychology (ICTTP) which was held on August 25-27th 2020 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Conference philosophy is Taking the Vision Zero Initiative into a New Decade. The Swedish Vision Zero Initiative on road safety is an ethical standpoint that no-one should die or be seriously injured in traffic. The key focus of this conference was on the role that traffic and transport psychology can play in reaching the ethical standpoint that no-one should die or be seriously injured in traffic by providing a common ground for future interdisciplinary research. link

UNECE – Road Safety Performance Review Project Final Capacity Building Workshop, Kachreti, 2018

UNECE‘s project “UNDA Road Safety Management Capacity Building Project” aims to assist four countries (Albania, Georgia, the Dominican Republic and Viet Nam) in the ECE, ESCAP and ECLAC regions to address their priority road safety needs by improving their national road safety management systems. The Final Road Safety Performance Review Capacity Building Workshop took place with great success in Kachreti, Georgia, on 15-16 February 2018 and was initiated by policy dialogue with national road safety stakeholders on how to use Road Safety Performance Review recommendations to generate road safety actions. The objective was to provide information and best practice for national government officials and other road safety stakeholders (NGO, academia, private sector) from Albania and Georgia.

Hersonissos, Crete – Road Safety Workshop, 2018

Hersonissos Municipality in Crete with the scientific guidance of the Laboratory of Health and Road Safety (LaHeRS) and of NTUA organized a two-day Road Safety Workshop, titled “Life Road” which took place with great success on 2-3 March, 2018. SWOV – 6th Humanist Conference, the Hague, 2018

SWOV is organizing the 6th HUMANIST Conference which will be host on 13-14 June 2018 in the Hague, The Netherlands. The theme of the conference is “Towards Vehicle Automation – Human Factors Challenges“. The scope of the conference covers a wide range of topics on Human Factors in Transport. The 2018 conference has a special focus on the Human Factors issues related to transition towards self-driving vehicles. The Hellenic Association of Driving Instructors with the support of the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Hellenic Society of Automotive Engineers, organized the 3rd Interdisciplinary Conference “Traffic Society and Road Safety: Crossing Glances”, which took place with great success in Athens on 7-8 January 2018. This Interdisciplinary Road Safety Conference brought together all road safety experts, stakeholders and Authorities in Greece in order to discuss current road accident problems and solutions in Greece with emphasis on road safety training and education

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 97th Annual Meeting was held with great success in Washington, D.C., on 7-11 January 2018. The meeting program covered all transportation modes, with more than 5,000 presentations in nearly 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. Auto Forum 2017 Fondation Vinci Autoroutes, Athens, 2017

Road Safety Institute “Panos Mylonas”, the economic and investment magazine HRIMA and the Hellenic Association of Motor Vehicle Importers Representatives (AMVIR), organized Fondation Vinci Autoroutes – Auto Forum 2017 titled: “Technology for road safety”, which took place with great success on 2 November 2017 in Vouliagmeni, Athens. Fondation Vinci Autoroutes – Auto Forum 2017 highlighted all new advancements in the automobile industry and presented products and services that will circulate in the near future and will affect – one way or the other – road safety in our country.

POLIS Conference – Transport innovation for sustainable cities and regions, Brussels, 2017

The 2017 Annual Polis Conference on “Transport innovation for sustainable cities and regions” took place with great success on 6 and 7 December 2017 in Brussels, organised by POLIS, the European Cities Network. The conference provided an opportunity for cities, metropolitan areas and regions to showcase their transport achievements to a large audience, and for the wider transport community to engage with representatives of local and regional authorities on innovative transport solutions.
