This paper aims to present a comparative assessment of the evolution of mortality indicators for road accidents, in various European countries, an evolution which depicts the commitments and their consistency in the implementation of precautionary measures of known effectiveness. Detailed data of mortality indicators referring to road accidents in various European and N. American countries are analysed, while emphasis is given on road accident data concerning foreign visitors in Greece. The results of this analysis show that apart from the individual risk, which is expected to be differentiated due to driver and pedestrian behavior during vacations, the environmental and road traffic (road network etc) factors as well as the cultural differences (driving behavior) seem to be of the highest importance.
