The organisation of the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens requires an important effort for the improvement of the infrastructure and the functioning of the city transportation system. The fixed and guaranteed final date of the 28th Olympiad could be a basic acceleration power for the realisation of a number of projects and arrangements in the Athens transportation system management. The organisation of the Olympic Games of 2004 in Athens is a great opportunity for the upgrading of the city transportation system given that infrastructure and operational improvements will remain after the Games contributing to the transformation of the Greek capital, in the next seven years, from a congested and polluted city to a city with a high level of quality of life.
