The purpose of this article is the presentation of the development of the Strategic Plan for the improvement of Road Safety in Greece for the period 2011-2020. Within this Strategic Plan, the target set is the reduction by 50% of road deaths in Greece by 2020, comparing to the number of road deaths in 2010, and the fundamental objective is the development of road safety culture in Greece. Initially, the previous Road Safety Strategic Plans were assessed. The critical factors for road safety in Greece were identified and the current developments on road safety worldwide were examined. The objective and the quantitative target were set and the structure of the Road Safety Strategic Plan, 2011-2020 was defined. Furthermore, specific road safety programmes concerning all factors involved in road accidents were developed, as well as an integrated plan for the implementation, the supervision and the assessment of the Strategic Plan.
