This work summarizes the underlying conditions regarding the parking management in major urban areas of Greece. Additionally, a complete framework of sustainable parking solutions dealing with parking problems is developed. This involves all major features of a complete parking policy in metropolitan areas, such as strategic planning, strengthening of the role of the Municipality Authorities, implementation of an efficient enforcement system of parking, development of park and ride facilities on the city outskirts, implementation of an underground parking station programme in central areas (with almost exclusive use by citizens) and other specific issues (two wheel parking, deliveries, available parking space within buildings, new technologies, etc). For the implementation of the proposed framework of solutions bold decisions are required, which in a mid-term basis will deal with the increasing parking problems that urban areas in Greece face today.
