In this research, international and national experiences are used for the analysis of actions necessary for the identification of hazardous locations and safety problems in the road environment and an integrated framework of all interventions to be implemented for the improvement of road safety is developed. These interventions concern road adaptations in the neighbouring land uses, upgrade of traffic arrangements in junctions and of the road geometric characteristics, improvements in signing, artificial lighting, road safety equipment and pavements, as well as interventions at the road side and special road safety measures in urban areas. Basic objective of this integrated framework of road safety interventions is the creation of an environment easily readable by drivers and pedestrians, which not only should not surprise them but also should forgive their errors.
