Today, advanced traveler information systems consist of a constant developing sector. The implementation and operation of such systems is expected to have a positive impact on several features of road transport, such as road safety, traffic and environmental conditions. Within this research an exhaustive description of all available advanced traveler information systems is carried out through properly chosen categories, which describe the systems’ characteristics. Furthermore, a presentation of the expected impact of the systems on the user’s behavior and subsequently on road transport is attempted, taking into account several parameters that affect user’s behavior and several examples of such systems’ operation.
