This paper outlines the current situation of road accidents in Greece. After presenting trends concerning the evolution of road accidents and their casualties together with the car ownership for the last twenty years, the Greek road accident indices are compared to those of the other European Union countries. Some injury road accident characteristics concerning the road users, the road network and the vehicles are also presented. At the end, past and current road safety policy in Greece is outlined.
