In this paper, the basic objectives as well as the basic principles for the development of the transportation system, which has to serve the Olympic family (athletes, officials, press) as well as the spectators during the Olympic Games, is presented. The Olympic Games is an activity of large scale which can bring for few days tremendous changes in the transport demand within the Olympic city. Special emphasis is given to the power that the Olympic Games have in accelerating the development of the infrastructure and the transportation system of the Olympic city.
