The mission of the NTUA Road Safety Observatory is to support the Greek and the International Road Safety Community with current key road safety knowledge and data, which are collected, analysed and organised within the research activities of the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering of theNational Technical University of Athens, as well as within cooperations with various national and international road safety organisations. For this purpose, a wide communication network including in person communication with road safety experts, implementation of specialised research (e.g. surveys, experiments etc) and constant participation in road safety activities worldwide will be established. All the information collected will be appropriately coded, analysed and published. The results will be presented through the existing specialised web-site(www.nrso.ntua.gr) which will be further elaborated and enriched.
Ultimatelly the NTUA Road Safety Observatory will contribute to the reduction of the number of road accidents and of the related casualties in Greece, in Europe and worldwide through the scientific support of evidence based decision making for the necessary road safety policies, programmes and measures. At a next stage, a Greek version will be developed.
