The objective of this research project is the development of a methodology for the identification of the black spots on the rural road network of Greece, which will help to the determination and the implementation of a number of interventions at the high hazard locations of the road network of the country, in order to reduce the number of accidents and victims. More specifically, the international experience and the Greek situation will be initially reviewed. Then, the methodology of the identification of the back spots as well as the hierarchy of the interventions will be determined and a pilot study will be implemented based on the above methodology. All these activities will contribute at the development of an effective plan for the systematic identification of black spots.
