The purpose of this research project is the development the 2nd Road Safety Strategic Plan for Greece. The implementation of this Plan will result to the achievement of the target set, which is the decrease by 50% of the road accident fatalities in Greece by 2010, in relation to the respective number of 2000. The 1st Road Safety Strategic Plan will be assessed and the current situation concerning road safety in Greece will be recorded. The competence of all responsible authorities will be redefined, on the basis of the outcomes of the 1st Road Safety Strategic Plan, while all relevant international developments will be analysed. Finally, the structure and the implementation Plan of the 2nd Road Safety Strategic Plan will be defined. The results and proposals of this research project will be exploited by the Ministry of Transport and Communications for the implementation of efficient measures for the improvement of road safety in Greece.
