The aim of this research project is the proposal of the appropriate methodology for the identification of hazardous locations in the road network and the causes of risk as well as the development of a framework for the identification of the proper countermeasures for the specific road safety problems. Methods used in Greece and internationally for the identification of hazardous locations will be reviewed. The correlation between road characteristics, road accidents and the recommended countermeasures will also be examined. A methodology for the identification of hazardous locations in the interurban road network and a framework for selecting the suitable road safety countermeasures will be proposed. This framework will be tested on a specific axe of the interurban road network of Greece.
