The purpose of this research project is to develop a manual consisting of guidelines on how to design and implement a programme for the collection of road accident data by the Authorities of a country/region. On this purpose, a complete set of road accident data to be collected by the Police, but also medical and other Authorities will be proposed, while at the same time, the related data collection procedures and methodologies will be explicitly described, as well as tools to assess the impact of implemented road accident data collection systems. It is noted that the recommendation of the data collection set will be mainly addressed to low and middle income countries, thus, it will be designed taking into account the specific priorities and needs of those countries.
