The
European Commission with the active contribution of
NTUA,
SWOV and
KFV has released two new
Reports focusing on drink driving, from the
European Road Safety Observatory. According to these Reports,
around 25% of all road fatalities in the EU are alcohol-related, representing 15 times higher crash risk than sober drivers. These Reports also highlight effective measures against impaired driving, which include: strict legislation backed by police enforcement, providing alternative transport means, awareness campaigns, rehabilitation courses, safety culture in companies, alcohol interlocks, and in-vehicle technology that warns or intervenes when impairment leads to critical events. This is part of the Commission’s systematic efforts to promote safe mobility across the EU.
