The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport launches the second phase of the Wide and Open Consultation with public and non-public bodies involved in road safety, in the framework of the National Road Safety Strategic Plan for the period 2021 - 2030.
The National Road Safety Strategic Plan includes efficient targeted and horizontal policies, based on real data and addresses issues of coordination and achievement of specific objectives across distinct policy areas. The Plan includes actions, concrete budget, timeplans and quantitative targets to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries in road crashes, by 50% by 2030, in alignment with the European Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan of the United Nations for the 2nd decade of road safety.
The National Road Safety Strategic Plan is developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport with the scientific support of the National Technical University of Athens, headed by Prof. George Giannis, and incorporates international standards and takes into account the detailed analysis of the possible realities.
In the context of the Plan implementation, a competent Government Committee for Road Safety was set up, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, in which the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou, the Deputy Minister of Interior. Petsas, the Deputy Minister of Health Mrs. Asimina Gaga, the Deputy Minister of Education and Religions Mrs. Zeta Makri and the Deputy Minister of Digital Government Mr. Theodoros Livanios participated.
The Chairman of the Government Committee on Road Safety, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos stated: "Reducing road accidents in Greece and improving the level of Road Safety in Greece is a key priority of the Government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. We seek to preserve the right to life of Greek women and men, but also to create better and safer conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and all vehicles."
In this consultation, the vision, the goals, the structure, the programs and the actions of the National Plan will be extensively discussed and the results will be taken into account in the finalization of the Plan. The aim of the Consultation is the wide participation of all in the formation of the National Road Safety Strategic Plan, marking the transition to a new, modern and efficient road safety management.
The Consultation is supported by this interactive website where any citizen or body (Public Authorities, Local Government, Public and Private Organizations and Businesses, Professionals, Scientists, Associations, NGOs) can be informed and submit comments and proposals for the finalization of the National Road Safety Strategic Plan in the period 2021-2030.
In the first phase of the Consultation (December 2021- March 2022), the Authorities, road safety bodies and citizens contributed their valuable ideas and proposals for the improvement of road safety in Greece. In the present second phase of the Public Consultation everyone is invited to express their views on the proposed National Road Safety Strategic Plan.
